Ojeda Counselors

About Us

Middle school can be a very difficult time in a young person’s life.  Adolescents face unique challenges, personally, socially, and developmentally, including trying to fit in, resolving conflicts, lacking confidence, juggling several classes, all while developing rapidly with hormonal influxes.  Add to that the constant pressure of social media, adolescents today definitely have unique challenges!

What’s the role of OMS Counselors?
As middle school counselors, we are professional educators with a mental health perspective. We understand and respond to myriad issues that adolescents face here at Ojeda. Working with students, parents/guardians, teachers, administrators, and community members, we work hard to support all students emotionally, socially, and academically. Guided by the ASCA National Model, we provide a comprehensive school counseling program which includes guidance curriculum, individual student planning, responsive services—such as social-emotional support—and system support overall.

More specifically, here’s some things we do:

  • Individual and crisis counseling
  • Group counseling
  • Peer meditations
  • Restorative conferences
  • Scheduling
  • Personal graduation plans
  • Support for students in SST, 504, and IEP meetings
  • Advocate for students in team meetings
  • Provide mental health resources and referrals

Students can request to see the counselor by filling out a request slip in the counseling center or by speaking with their classroom teacher.  We look forward to working with you this year!
